The Psychological Effects of Imprisonment
We've been discussing the effects of imprisonment on the Jews during the Holocaust. It is obvious that they were devastated and beaten down by the oppressive hand of the SS officers. However, readers sometimes fail to discuss the effects that the camps had on the SS officers. In looking at the Stanford Prison Experiment, how are the effects on the participants in the study similar to what is happening in the novel Night? Think about the events that take place in the study and how the participants are treated and how the guards have started to assert their power. Also, discuss what effect this type of experiment would have on you if you were apart of it? Be open, honest and thorough in your response.

ReplyDeleteI believe that the effect on the SS Officers was great, but not surpassing that of the prisoners. They were put in a position of power, responsible for human life, and witnessing all this brutality through everything. This kind of exposure to power can corrupt a person, and make them more prone to violence, mood swings, and passive agression. If I was a part of the experiment, I absolutely couldn't be a prisoner, simply because of my objection to authority. I never plan on going to prison. If I was a guard, I wouldn't be feared much, because I can't hit people unless I'm just playing around. I guess I would be a horrid guard or prisoner...
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be able to do it for $15 a day. I wouldn't be able too bare it. The officers lived a everyday life, but when they had got back in there uniforms, they had got back into there character. I would probably drive myself crazy, and kill myself.

ReplyDeletethere was some boys and they these officers i could not do it for 15$ a day i would get mad if some one took my character
ReplyDeleteThey went through almost the same things as the holocaust victims. The power has taken over the Officers and the prisoners have bin shamed, pushed around and humiliated. they made it feel like reality and that is why the power has taken over them.
ReplyDeletewhat I've read and heard about Stanford prison is almost the same as the Holocaust. The people who were in the prison were also being affected. They were called by numbers; Their identities were being taken away, just like in the Holocaust; they were not known by names but by numbers. I believe that I wouldn't be able to be part of the prison because it was very bad. People who were part of this had a role and maybe their role or what they had to do took over them.

ReplyDeleteThe affect of the people from the Sanford Prison was almost just like the holocaust that is going on in the book of Night. In Sanford prison they were putting folks in prison and the rest of theme they was guards. They was punishing folks for no reason. They was stripping people naked to make sure that they was clean, and they put stocking caps on their head so they could look alike. In the holocaust the book of Night they were, killing people. They took the boy from his mother and his sister. So him and his father got in the wrong line and they killed his father and he and to put his father in the barrel. Before they got there they had got fussed out. Because they made a big mistake. They had three chances to get away from it.It was sad thought because when they got into the camp they saw a big firer and it was little babies in the firer burning. So he was like he will killed himself before they do. And he don't trust God no more.
ReplyDeleteThe SS Officers was just like the prisoners but in a bad way. Why i say that because they where over powered. I couldn't be a guard because i don't like to hit people unless they needed to be hit. I would just kill myself.
ReplyDeleteThis is what i through about it the people in the Sanford Prison was almost like the Holocaust. The Sanford Prison were putting people in their for an experiment. But the Holocaust was true. They both went through a lot of bad things.

ReplyDeleteThe SS Officers For Sanford Prison Was Taking Their Man Hood Away For Disciple Because The Same Thing Was The Holocaust Was Doing The Same As Sanford Prison .The Men Was Doing The Experiment Because They Didn't Want The Men Have They Pride .....But If it Was Me in That Kind of None Sense I Wouldn't Want Nobody Taken My Identity They Had The Men Blind Folded Or Close With Glasses So They Can't See What Can Happen To Them It Was Alot Of Bad Things Was Going On 1960's Or 1980's .
ReplyDeleteThe SS officer for Sanford Prison took their man hood because they just could do that. Night was doing the same thing. They didn't want the men to have pride. They would also cut their head bald so they would all look the same. They was taking away their identity.
ReplyDeleteThe SS officer from the Stanford prison experiment got most of their ideas were from the Holocaust, such as when they put their foot in the prisoners back while they did push ups. But I feel that the people in the Holocaust had way more harsh punishment then the prisoners. If I were to be in that situtation I would really know what to do towards most of their situtaions. Im a girl and half the things they did or went through I could deal with or handle.
ReplyDeleteI felt as if they were going through some of the same things the holocaust victims had to experience and i also think it was horrible but it also show you how the victims of the holocaust really felt in their time of suffering!!!!!!
ReplyDeletethe experiment was just about the real thing the the SS officers in the real thing and the experiment they acted the same way and they started to be more and more like the SS officer
ReplyDeleteIn sanford they was puting folks in prison and the rest of them was guards .they was geting punishing for no reason and they was stripping people to make sure they clean.
ReplyDeletethe experiment and the holocaust was a horrible thing i think no one should go through what happened
ReplyDeleteThe Sanford Prison and Holocaust was similar. They had people who were humiliated, scared, kiling babies, and younger childrens. It was terrible how they took away their men hood, I dont think that was cool. They really experience alot of bad things.
ReplyDeleteThe two situations were very similar to each other. People were being burned, and lots of people were being humiliated. The guards clearly took advantage of the prisoners. I don't think I could have survived something like that. If i was a part of that, I would become a more disciplined person.
ReplyDeleteThe effect this type of experiment would have on me would be that i would go crazy, they would have to pay me 100$ a day and maybe traumatized .
ReplyDeleteThe prison was similar to the other one ,beacuse they humiliate them and scare them .Its terrible how the people was treat so they know how it the people felt.I think that will be a bad expirience and i will be traumatized.
ReplyDeleteThe two situations were very similar to each other. People were being burned, and lots of people were being humiliated. The guards clearly took advantage of the prisoners.
ReplyDeleteThey are alike because in both of them people are gegraded and treated like animals. In both of them the gaurds started seeing a change in ther on personalality
ReplyDeleteThey are alike because they were punishing people for no reason and most of them were guards. They were stripping them to make sure they were clean, giving them numbers for names and putting caps on their head or shaving it off so they all could look alike. I feel that the people in the Holocaust had way more harsh punishment then the prisoners.
ReplyDeleteNow that I have seen the Stanford imprisonment it reminds me of almost some of same things that was happening in the Holocaust. The people that were in the prison were being affected. They were called by numbers instead of their name just like in the Holocaust. If that was me I know I couldn’t be apart of the prison experiment because it was making those people crazy.
ReplyDeleteI feel that how they treated people in the video they treated the people in the concentration camps way worse. I don't think if i was a SS Officer back then that i would be able to do that to people. i am mean at times but I don't I can make somebody I don't know eat out of their bowl after i threw it in the toilet, maybe someone I DESPISE very much but not someone I don't know and I know they are human like I am. I couldn't be part of the prison experiment, maybe an officer but not a prisoner.
ReplyDeleteThe Stanford imprisonment reminds me of some of same things that was happening in the Holocaust. Some of the events that went on in the Holocaust was happening in the prison on the movie. But I feel that the people in the Holocaust got punished worse than the prisoners on the movie though.
ReplyDeleteThe Stanford Prison Experiment state that people will do anything under the type of any kind of pressure. i realize that the Nazi did what they had to do or they would be killed on spot. But Me and that experiment would have not made it. i would have cursed somebody out because that type of disrespect over $15 a day just is not working .
ReplyDeleteBoth situations are similar in many ways. The Stanford imprisonment show that people change under pressure. I would not be able do one of these experiments.
ReplyDeleteThe Stanford Imprisonment reminds me of the Holocaust because they were no longer call by their name but by numbers. The prisoners were only abused verbally. In the Holocaust the prisoners were abused Verbally and Physically. The way the prisoners were treated in the Holocaust was way worst than the way the prisoners were treated in the Stanford Imprisonment. I could not be a prisoner or and Officer in The Stanford Imprisonment the money was not worth it.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the Stanford imprisonment it reminds me of almost some of same things that was happening in the Holocaust. The people that were in the prison were being treated wrong just like the ones in the concentration camp. In the holocaust they were called by numbers instead of their names, they got treated less of a person just because of who they are, the only difference is was that the Stanford imprisonment officers couldn't physically touch the people but they messed them up mentally. I couldn't have done the experiment because it was making those people crazy they was loosing there minds in there.
ReplyDeleteThe Standford experiment is similar to the Holocaust because the prisoners got humiliated. If I participated in the Standford experiment it would probably have an affect on me too. I would have left the first day of the experiment if it got out of hand.
ReplyDeleteThe Stanford Prison and the Holocaust have a few things in common, such as people having there name taking away from them, getting called by a number Ex.6801. The way people got treated during the Holocaust the people in the Stanford Prison got treated which I think was WRONG. The novel showed how one man got hung/killed, and the experiment showed how one man got the electric chair. But the SS Officer that was shocking him didn't want to do it but someone else that was in charge told him that he didn't have another choice. Me personally, if today's society Choose One person my age to do what an SS Officer did I would really pray for them, And I would Think about what they go threw during every day life.
ReplyDeleteThe Holocaust & The Standford Prison Experiment was almost the same. The guards in The Standford Experiment was like SS Officers. The wanted to let the prisoners know what it feels like to really be locked up in a prison. If that was me i don't know what i would do. The guards and the SS officers was making the prisoners do things they didn't want to do.
ReplyDeleteThe Psychological Effects of Imprisonment can hurt some badly because some people goes crazy when they get locked up and get all emotional and miss their love ones and when the prisoners of night get locked up they missed their family an they was treated bad they wanted to get out

ReplyDeleteI would like more people to chime in. I think you all are very accurate in you descriptions of the similarities between the Stanford Prison Experiment and the Holocaust. However, I'm interested in knowing what your reactions would be if you were apart of the Stanford Prison Experiment. How would the experiment have affected you? Why? Come back and expound on your reactions!
ReplyDeletewhen i was locked up for a day it was crazy i felt very caged in i felt very strange like i cant even really explain but its not a good feeling and you can feel sad hurt and sad and it just do not feel good
DeleteThe guards are starting to make them do hard labor around the prison. Was punished for any little thing that they are other prisoners did. That the guards started to make the prisoners turn on each other. Guards were starting to abuse there power and were pushing it over board. But if i was in it as a guard I to would probably abuse my power to. Because you wouldn't let none of the prisoners disrespect you. So you start to lose it with the power. But as a prisoner you would do the same as to not to take orders from nobody else. Because we are all human beings and soon or later we can and will lose it.
ReplyDeleteKnowing me for who i am now i wouldn't be able to do it at all even if i was getting paid. Because i know how to look at situations from other people eyes and i know i wouldn't want to be treated like that.
ReplyDeleteThe guards started to abuse the prisoners for not doing what they said to do. To me the guards was really abusing their power. They should have respected the prisoners even if they didn't listen to what they had to say. So the prisoners started to get punished for any little thing.
ReplyDeleteboth of them had power of the prisioner. And most of the prisioner from sanford were suffering just as the prisoner in the concentration camps.
